snowballFight.jpgWhat a difference a week makes. Last Friday, we couldn't get enough Mizzou and we were counting down the hours until the Saturday night Big XII match-up. This weekend, there's no Mizzou game and we're left realizing, again, how crappy St. Louis sports are in the winter. The Blues are in Canada tonight, and your 3-9 Rams play the 4-8 Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. That's about it kids. Get used to it. Mizzou doesn't play their bowl game for another 8 weeks or something.

In the meantime, we'll focus on the MLB "hot stove" - which is basically a fancy way of saying "made up rumors".

Cards come home from the Winter Meetings empty handed - well except for that big bag of stuff they bought at the LaRussa/Rolen Winery. [STLToday]

Your obligatory "we have interest in Scott Rolen, but are weary of taking on his salary and past injuries" rumor. This time around: the Milwaukee Brewers (again). [The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel]

Your second obligatory "we have interest in Scott Rolen, but are weary of taking on his salary and past injuries" rumor. This time around: the Florida Marlins [Palm Beach Post]

The Colorado Rockies are interested in signing free agent David Eckstein, but Eckstein must first pass a series of physicals to see if he doesn't float away in the thin, Denver air. [Denver Post]

Pitchers Chris Capuano, from Milwaukee, and Cliff Lee, from Cleveland, were the two names that emerged on the Cardinals want-list this past week. However, as Fungoes.net describes, they may not have more up-side than incumbent pitcher, Anthony Reyes. [Fungoes]

In other news, Marc Bulger's head is still "cloudy" and the Rams are expected to sign free-agent quarterback, Todd Bouman. [AOL Fanhouse]
