edmondsHR.jpgThere's no way to quantify the word "icon" in the sports world. You don't have to look at numbers or statistics to gauge an icon - because there's enough memories in your head to last a lifetime. As Cardinals fans begin week #1 in the post-Jim Edmonds era, there will be tons of hindsight chatter about his contract, his greatness, and his Hall of Fame worthiness.

But one thing is for sure - when we look back at Jim Edmonds' career in St. Louis, it won't be the 14 HRs and 55 RBIs he averaged over the last two seasons. It'll be the good stuff - the game winning walk-off in Game 6 of the 2004 NLCS, and the game-saving catch in Game 7. It'll be about his thrilling antics in center, and his innate ability to crash into a wall in the top of an inning, pick himself up, and deliver a silky smooth stroke at the plate in the bottom half.

Jim Edmonds was an icon, and we're going to miss the memories.

Tons of excitement in the Rams/Packers game on Sunday. Brett Favre threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns, passing Dan Marino as the NFL career passing leader...Green Bay secured a first round playoff bye for the first time since 1997...and Steven Jackson ran for a season-high 143 yards - meaning he only needs to average 818 yards over the next two games to reach his self-proclaimed goal of 2500 yards. Could happen.

A special Morning Tailgate video tribute to Jim Edmonds. We'll miss #15.
