Another day, another ride on the St. Louis Blues roller coaster. After an inspired stretch where they went unbeaten in five games, the Blues have followed that up with five straight without a win. Needless to say, Kenny and the rest of the fans are getting nauseous.
The Skinny: Last night, the Blues managed to continue demonstrating two of their biggest weaknesses this season:
1.) Scoring - In their last five games, they have managed to score just four goals. I never played hockey as a kid, but I don't think that's good.
2.) Playing Phoenix - I don't know if it's intimidation when seeing Wayne Gretzky behind the bench, but the Blues have been miserable against the Coyotes this season losing all four meetings. They've lost to Phoenix the last six times they've played them at Scottrade.
False Hope: For the second straight game the Blues pumped in a goal early in the first period to take the lead, only to get shut out the rest of the game.
Cam Janssen's Debut: The local boy recently acquired for Bryce Salvador made his debut in the Blues sweater and logged 7:12 of ice time and racked up one penalty for charging. Personally I thought it should have been a blocking foul. Speaking of sweaters,
The reason why Gretzky likes beating the Blues so much...
...because they made him wear one of these abominations:
The Record: 28-26-10; 66 points
Points Away from the Final Playoff Spot: 6 Points Away from the Worst Record in the NHL: 10
Up Next: Saturday vs. San Jose 7:30
Frankly, Ken isn't really going to say much today because all this up and down has him on the cusp of barfing up the Mahi Mahi he caught in the Pacific the other day. Get your crap together Blues, you get no Babies today.
