Last week, our esteemed online colleague Josh Bacott wrote a piece on the front-runners for the NL Central,
?The next few weeks will give us a much better indication if this (Brewers) team is for real or just the shiniest of the turds in the division.?

Since that post, the Brewers schedule strength has increased and their record has mildly decreased.  They?ve gone from 24-10 to 25-14, and Derrick Turnbow has reverted to ?06 form - at least for 2 outings - having admitted he abandoned his slider in Monday night's meltdown ?for no good reason?.

All is not lost in Milwaukee though, as the Brewers still play in the NL Central and still sit in first place by a hearty (JJ, perhaps? - **clever**) margin.  That said, I?m a bit worried for the folks in Milwaukee.  They seem to be jumping the gun just a tad, taking this quick start for more than it really is.

Not only have 3500+ vowed to pee their pants if the Brewers make the playoffs, but the Brewers homepage on the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is asking their fans to coin a nickname for this year?s team.  Uh, guys, it?s probably a bit early for that.  Even you said so yourself,
"Baseball has a long tradition of naming its great teams. Maybe it's too early to give the 2007 Brewers a nickname worthy of a champion, but let's do it anyway.  Of course, there were Harvey's Wallbangers in '82, the last Brewers team to go to the World Series. Going back further, we had the Hitless Wonders (1906 White Sox); Murderers' Row ('27 Yankees); Gashouse Gang ('34 Cardinals); Amazin' Mets ('69 Mets); Big Red Machine ('75-'76 Reds)."

That could be the kiss of death my friends.  You?re taking this way too far.  Hell, you?re even handing out free rectal exams.  When the Brewers fold up shop in mid September and the Cards, uh, I mean Cubs, no, uh Pirates, um, Reds, no, I mean Astros take the division, don?t say we didn?t warn you.

Karma can be an Anna Benson.
